Choosing Your Life
Hello there friend.
Today’s topic is one of my favorites… Choosing Your Life. But how do we get started? It goes deeper than the desire to create a life we love. We first have to identify our core values, be able to hear ourselves in all of the NOISE, and be willing to take action to align ourselves to our deepest knowings of who we are.
This blog will outline some questions that have helped me hone in on this life long project of choosing a life in alignment with who I am, and who I am becoming.
If you are ready to dig into this topic then read on friend!
Identifying Core Values
Do you know your core values? The things that are most important to you. The non-negotiables in your life? This is a wonderful place to begin if you are on the journey of creating an aligned reality. If we aren’t aware of these core values, our lives can take on an energy of their own, moving us toward what society TELLS us we should want, rather than the things we actually deisre.
I encourage you to take some time to journal on the following:
What would I like to do more of each day?
What does an IDEAL day look like from the time I wake up to the time that I sleep?
What things would I like to eliminate from my life completely?
What dream(s) have I put on hold that I would like to pursue?
What brings me the most joy?
The answers to these questions are likely to help you uncover the things that are most important to you, and highlight areas of life that are not favorable. This is a wonderful starting point!
Examples of Core Values
Time with family
Present Motherhood
True Self-Care
Healthy eating
Hearing Ourselves Amidst the NOISE
Society has many ideas about what our lives SHOULD look like. We are bombarded with messages every single day about what the ideal man, woman, mother, should be doing, wearing and thinking. We are told we are just one more purchase away from happiness, one promotion away from peace, and another car away from contentment.
But what if the messaging is wrong?
What if our unique version of contentment is deeply personal and has nothing to do with how many things we buy and the clothes we wear?
One of the greatest pursuits of this lifetime is learning to hear ourselves admist the noise of society. Learning WHO we really are under the programming is the key to connecting with the peace that lies within us.
Some journal questions to ponder…
What do I enjoy doing?
If I won the lottery tomorrow and had no financial obligations, how would I spend my time?
When do I find myself smiling most?
What do I want to be remembered for?
What story am I creating with my life?
Taking Action
In the beginning taking action might look like committing to the above journal prompts. It could look like taking the day off work to dig deep, unwind and reset the hedonic treadmill you find yourself on each week. It could look like taking a course for beginner photographers, starting the blog or making a plan to repay credit card debt.
This process is so highly personal, and that is the beauty. No one can tell you who YOU are. It takes a desire to dig deep and shed the layers of proramming, expectations and pain that we have experienced. It takes dedication to understand who we are, and take consistent action toward BECOMING that person more and more each day.
If you are on this journey just know you are not alone. It takes courage to show up for yourself.
You are brave.
You are capable.
You’ve got this!
I hope you enjoyed this conversation on the possibilities of our reality when we choose to embody WHO WE ARE.
